hi my name is miryam and i'm from firebaugh. my mentor is lali ochoa and she asked me to mention one of my past activities. well to begin with i just attended Advanced Leadership Accadamy (ALA). this was a conference for juniors in the FFA. during this weekend we learned a lot of leadership skills and how to incorporate them in agriculture. we also had to talk about the different issuses that affect us as a community. in the end after all our hard work and patience we had a dance and had lots of fun there.
in other news on the 28 of feburary the commumity of firebaugh is having the annual migrant mini conference and the firebaugh middle school. many students are going to attend and get community hours and get a new experience. if you would like to attend it will start at 8 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. there would be breakfast and lunch provided as well as workshops for everybody.
well that's all the news from firebaugh. bye.

I was rading some of the ideas that have been posted up in order for us to save money. I think they are all wonderfull Ideas. But we really have to put them into practice. I know that like Phania said most of the schools have more then one Mentor assigned, so there really is no reason why all mentors should drive by them selfs. I my self carpool with Mellissa and sometimes Remigio. I would be more then happy to carpool with anyone else if your school is anywhere going towards Firebaugh. Lets all keep are heads up and make this program that we have worked so hard to keep work.

Well we all know that the program has financial issues and it's our duty to continue the program and find ways to keep running the program effectively. Eddie and were speaking about different ideas yesterday over the phone. I agree that Phania has a good idea and we should all find ways to have more face to face contact with our students. What Eddie and I also spoke about was having every mentor give an estimate of how much money they need for trtansportation on monthly basis. However, we would have to include a few factors like estimated car mileage and distance as well. Even though this may be a challenge it should not a the reason to stop the continuation of developing a great program.

Hello Mentors..Let's all work together!!

I know all of us have many ideas!!! but we definetly need to find the best, so we can help out our program. What Paco and I are thinking is that we are going to carpool. We have decided that he's going to drive one week and i will drive another week. That way we will spend less on milage and we will be helping the program. This is just our idea and maybe many of you can do the same by carpooling with our co-workers.!!

hey this is Cris one of the many students that attended wonder valley's conference... just wanted to thank all the mentors for taking their time to teach us a little bit of what you have learned through life... and for taking some of your valuable time to helping the youth of our community.... not only that, but to invite all the students that attended this conference to take advantage of what was learned and make a change..... for example several students from our school in Mendota came back and started this awsome club called Student Sin Barreras.... yeah! it may sound corky or cheesy... but these students came back filled of knowledge and the spirit of helping their peers. They got together and founded this club in order to inspire and educate their fellow classmates that there is no barrier against a higher education. this was just a small evolution from what was taught at the confrence and hope for others to step up for a change... a better change not just for us, but for the future.

Hello Everyone!

This is Cristina from Mendota, I hope Everyone is doing well. We are really glad to inform you that we are working in a big project for our school. My classmates and me from the Wonder Valley coference decide to create a program, that would help our classmates to obtain the same information we do. This program was named "Students sin Barreras", because it marks our school's identity in a way that our school is bilingual. This program would support all are classmates and would teach them that they have to belive in themselves. this program have been consist of alot of work from everyone, by the way, we want to thank Eddie, Tere, Paco, Cheli, and everyone else for be there and help in everything!!!. We are trying to help our fellows not to deal with the same barriers we did. We are trying to show them, everything that we learn in the coference. Our qoute from the program is "Dreams never come true, until you believe and fight for them". We know this is going to be a hard worl and that we have to work alot, but we know we can do and we know that our program would continue! We have really good news, we have about 52 studnets in the club, and we are doing fundraising to get money for our club! this is exciting work and i really recomend you guys to try. I am really glad to have connection with all you guys! take care and you that when ever you guys need something there is nine people in Mendota glad to help!!!!!

Well, I don't know if its even a creative thought..but lol
just say this is what I was thinking at the time when reading
Eddie's email that was sent to all mentors.

THOUGHT: NOT TO OFFEND ANYONE:

I understand that making money gets everyone excited
and active (being honest; including myself =]) but like Eddie said, we have to work as a team.
And I was thinking that since mileage reimbursement is a thing that we are dealing with plus that the economy is in a not-so-stable with "money stage"; the Foundation do not have much to distribute among us as mentors.

What I am trying to say is that since 2-4 mentors are assigned to one school (For example, I know that Hmong, Jose, Irlanda, and I are assigned to Clovis East) we can take turn driving to Clovis East. What I meant by that was if we all have a car (which I know Jose, Hmong, and I all own a car but I'm not sure about Irlanda), we can all get together and discuss what days are best for all 4 mentors being able to go and visit Clovis East in one car. Since we are allowed to visit the students at school twice a month ONLY, we can negotiate something like for example, this February we can use Irlanda's car for the first visit then use my car for the second visit of the month. Then once March comes along we can go visit Clovis East with Hmong's car for the first visit then Jose's car for the second visit. Well, hopefully I didn't lose any of you on the way and hoping that you all understand what I am trying to say here. LOL. No, I mean seriously. Anyways, that was my thought. If we need to work as a team, we will and I am hoping that every mentor will take in their part to make this program on-growing.
