Kings Canyon Middle School

Hello everyone,
Hope you all had a great weekend! Panhia and I had our first meeting with students on Friday and it went great. We waited in the class room during their lunch and the students slowly began to come in. Most of them were boys so we hope to get some girls in. Were both very excited as we are getting a great response from the boys but we are going to continue to call home and invite the migrant students. We also meet the principle and I'm really excited to have his support as well as the great warm welcomes we've been receiving from other staff members. I will report more as soon as we visit them again Wednesday during their lunch and after school and friday's during their lunch. I'm so excited for this semester so far so good but were still waiting for Roosevelt.

West Hills Trip

Hi everyone,

I am trilled to have been part of the West Hills College trip. I really enjoy taking part in this project. I learned a lot of new information that will help me give a better service to the students. I feel better qualified to answer any questions that the students might have. One of the activities that I have plan for next week is to have a reflection session, in which, I will encourage other students to attend next time.
HOLA!
Today I was in Coalinga High. I was glad to see new faces attend the meeting today. I worked on them on a one-on-one basis today to answer questions that they had brought in for me. Two students also informed me on how well they had done this past semester in their classes. After the meeting I meet up with the rest of our students, they were in West Hills for the College Awareness Program. I enjoyed hearing what our students had learned through out the day and asked a few to share what they had learn to the rest of the students that could not attend in our next meeting, and they agreed! Next week we will be meeting with the principle of Coalinga High, so I will let you know how it went. Have a great weekend!

UPDATE

Today Yesenia and I paid our visit to Kings Canyon Middle School. It was a very successful meeting with Mr. Rocha. We did got a lot of information about the school from Mr. Rocha. He is a very passionate and compassionate person for his migrant students. Mr. Rocha is very helpful and kind for lending us his room as a place for our meetings. He also offer to help and assist us with any further needs we may have. Today, we went over the basic things so far, and we got a list of all the 7th and 8th grade students at Kings Canyon. We also got the chance to meet with Mrs. Novato
(I am spelling her last name wrong, excuse me). She is the coordinator for after school programs
and will be assisting us as well with any needs we have. Yesenia and I will start our recruitment
tonight and tomorrow night (such as calling the parents & talking to the students). I have already
contacted a few students along with the parents about our official recruitment meeting on Friday
during Kings Canyon's lunch time. Well, time sheets are due tomorrow my fellow mentors. I will
go back to finish calling my list of students & parents. Lastly, have a great night and hope all is well. =)

Hi everyone,

I hope everything is going well. I enjoy helping out the students. As a new mentor I am still getting to know them, but I am working on it. Me and Adi already introduced ourselves to them and we got to talk about our goals for the semester. We also asked them for their expectations for this semester. Currently, we are working hard to motivate the students to assist the West Hills trip. I'm looking forward to attend.

Hope all of you have a wonderful week!
Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is doing great out in there schools. This is just a little update on our Friday's meeting at Coalinga. The same group of students keep showing up to our meeting. On Friday Jose and I helped the underclassmen get started with their CSU Mentor account and UC account; we informed them that it wasn't to early to start. With the great room that we had, at the same time I was helping students create email accounts. Unfortunately we ran out of time, but we will be continuing this on Wednesday. Also our next goal for this up coming meeting is to fill up the slots that Coalinga High has for the trip to West Hills.

Have a great afternoon!
Thank you Melissa for staying connected. We all miss you as well. But we know that you will do great things... We are so proud and honored to have you as part of our team. Once a Mentor always a mentor...

Hello,

I just wanted to give you a little brief up date on Coalinga High School. Jose and I went on Wednesday during their lunch time and took a few snacks. I was excited to hear from the students that they were waiting for us to come back to Coalinga. I was also exited to see the turn out that we had; about 12 students attended. In our meeting Jose introduced himself to the new mentees; we also talked about the Camps and discussed with them on our plans for this semester. They also had several topics of interest that they wish for us to discuss with them further. We will be going again tomorrow, so I will give you the up date!

I enjoyed reading everyone's bios :)

I also had the opportunity to meet the Coalinga migrant staff with whom I will be working this next semester. We were able to brainstorm new ideas for our program.

hello everybody... ....

I want to share with all of you what's happening at Parlier and Reedley HS. Today at Parlier the money from the tickest was collected and this Friday we will have la rifa de la camara. Our students are working on their community service hours too. As you can see our students are geeting ready for our trip to Dysneyland and they are taking the requirements for this trip really serious.

Today I also went to Reedley, there I had a little problem. Since they opened a new library and our classroom is at the old library our classroom was closed. uuuuy lo bueno es que Doris llego y nos fuimos a resolver el problema. conseguimos que nos dieran una llave. entonces de hoy en adelante nosotros vamos a tener la llave del salon.
