HAPPY NEW YEAR...

DECEMBER 22nd, 2008

Okay, so Hmong and I been planning some activities plus a little christmas gift exchange at Woodward park for our students. And we made it happened today. LOL. It turn out GREAT even though a few of the students could not make it. The time was planned from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm but we actually stay longer then that. It was a lot of fun telling jokes and getting to know everyone, even those who were not able to attend the leadership camp in Oct. Hmong and I tried a few activites with our students that the staffs and mentors were doing at camp Yeager. For example, 3 things that we were expert in. It's fasinating how it's just not only hard for us but the students were having a hard time too. LOL. Well, maybe the other mentors could try out some of the activities that we've done at camp. It does kill time and it's a GREAT way for the students to recognize themselves plus learn something about other people. Well, just want to mention today activities. Hope all of you guys have a great break and keep up the blog posting. =)

Good Morning All,

Thank you for making this past weekend a GREAT experience!!! Thanks for sharing about yourselves and letting everyone else get to know a little bit more about you. I personally had a very positive experience and I hope that I can keep working with each of you in the future. Remember to use me and everyone else as a resource. Our students at the schools will benefit from the knowledge that you will share with them. Let me tell you that we are EXTREMELY lucky to have you all as mentors in the program!! Each one of you represents a piece of the rock that symbolizes who we are and what we are trying to accomplish. (By the way, the rock is at the office.. Someone brought it from the fire circle... Jejeje)

Hello mentors, staff and students... The retreat awakened some of our untapped potential. The earth was not created in a day, neither will the attainment of our potential in weekend. What is true, however is that whatever we learned about ourselves and others will in esscence redifine who we are as individuals and as mentors.

It was wonderful having all of you as part of my weekend and bonding together as well. I know that we all have great ideas and we showed it through our work during the camp. other than having a good time we reflected a lot and learned a lot about ourselves. I hope that next year brings great achievements to everyone personally and to our organization. I hope that you all have wonderful holidays with your loved ones, I'll be saying cheers from Mexico...

HELLO ALL. I HOPE ALL IS WELL...
MARSHA SHARED THIS WITH ME... I AM STILL WIPING OFF THE TEARS! THANK YOU MARSHA...
Last night when I showed our Green Meadows leadership show at the Kerman PAC, one of the high school students who had attended that camp last year was so full of emotion that she broke down in tears when she addressed the parents - not only for what she had learned at the camp and how it had influenced her, but also in sharing how hard it was for her to live in this society. Seeing these incredible photos with the wonderful music and words juxtaposed helped her relive that experience and relate it to her life.

The mentor assigned to Kerman who had also been a CAMP counselor at the Green Meadows camp was elated when she saw her experience on the screen. It helped her to gain even greater insight as to the value of what she is doing with her life.

MENTEES TAKING OVER

Hello guys,

In the last few weeks Araceli and I have been working with the Mendota students. We have some outstanding students that are now taking over within their school and have started and group in which they will be in charge. This organization that they created is brand new and its an inspiration that derived from our leadership academy. They are now getting other students invloved and teaching them about leadership skills. They also provide them with support in their education in a very friendly manner. I encourage you all to inform your students about what the kids in Mendota are doing and if they have any questions about the organization we have in Mendota have them contact me or I can also connect them directly with students from Mendota. I hope you are all having a great time and good luck on your finals.

Hopefully next semester we make a greater impact on the students since we will be working with them since the beginning of the semester.
